Course Description
Problem solving skill is fundamental to organizational and professional effectiveness. Applying a standard problem
solving process minimizes the guesswork and leverages expertise and objectivity.
Problem Solving Skills training is based on the principles of fact analysis and expert collaboration.
Participants learn to apply a proven sequence of steps to find the root cause of problems. They will also learn
various means to resolve problems in the short and long term.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Gather necessary background facts pertaining to the problem (what, when, where, how much/big)
Clearly articulate a problem statement based on those facts
Apply the analytical process to discover potential root causes
Test potential causes to discover the most likely cause
Validate the true cause and develop appropriate actions to minimize or eliminate the problem effects
Determine the best alternative and implementation plan to resolve the problem

Executives, managers, team leaders, supervisors, project managers, and technical specialists.
Learning Methods
This is an instructor-led session that uses lecture-presentation, individual exercises, and small group role-plays
to practice the scenario-based learning activities. Participant materials are provided for each attendee.
Application tools are also provided to help participants transfer the skills back to the job.
Duration
The training duration is one day.
